About Yen

About Yen

Yen has almost two decades' experience as a construction and advisory professional in engineering, strategic and commercial roles in capital infrastructure projects, offering the following key strengths:

  • Intuitive, pragmatic, efficient and forward-thinking approach to delivering outcomes

  • Effective and simple communication of complex and detailed concepts

  • Analytical and numerical proficiency with a passion for problem solving

  • High attention to detail while maintaining sight of bigger picture objectives

  • Leadership through trusting relationships and a positive collaborative team culture

  • Open-mindedness and adaptability to new and unfamiliar scenarios.

With a background in mechanical engineering, Yen's career began in civil contracting where she gained practical, hands-on experience managing and delivering large projects.

Yen spent a decade in management consulting in various energy, resources and infrastructure advisory roles, strengthening her business acumen and capitalising on her strengths as a strategic thinker and logical communicator to inform and assist clients in their decision making.

More recently, Yen has brought her strong technical and commercial foundations, high attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills to roles within the Queensland Government, including the Department of Transport and Main Roads and the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority, where she broadened her knowledge on governance, strategic risk management and decision making.

Yen excels in complex problem definition, strategic level decision making, and communication and presentation of detailed solutions. On an interpersonal level, Yen values open and honest, communicative and collaborative teams and enjoys sharing successes and developing others. She has a continual thirst for challenges and variety and works well with diverse styles and skillsets. In recent years she has taken on managerial and leadership roles where she fosters others through clear boundaries, high accountability and autonomy enabled by a foundation of adaptability, support and trust.

Outside of work, Yen enjoys spending time with her husband, two young daughters and labrador, singing, trying to expand her musical tastes beyond indie rock from the 90s and early 2000s, cooking, camping, scuba diving and travel.

Yen's curriculum vitae can be provided on request.
